Tips to Remember when Taking Portrait Photos

Even if you’re not a fan of the ‘posed’ pictures in wedding photography, you cannot deny the fact that a portrait – wherein either the bride or the groom’s face is captured on close-up range – is one of the best ways to capture emotions in a wedding.

In order for you to take great portrait photos when covering weddings, here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind:

1. Turn your subject into the focal point of the photograph – so avoid distracting backgrounds that will take the attention away from the face. Select a neutral background or better yet, a solid-colored one.

2. Blur the background and focus on the eyes of your subject. Use your technical expertise behind the lens to blur the background and just focus on your subject – but if it’s difficult to do that with your lens – you can always use a photo editing software later on.

3. If you’re taking a lot of portrait, do it during the day so that you can make the most out of natural lighting.

4. Take as many shots as you can. Don’t scrimp on the number of shots that you can take when it comes to portraits. Remember that there just might be a goldmine of a photo which will come out once you take a series of shots – so snap that shutter away!
